Wunderkammer was my first solo exhibition. Its brings together a collection of sculptural assemblages that transform found objects, reclaimed materials and fragments of the past into curious and unexpected forms. Drawing on the tradition of the cabinet of curiosities, the exhibition explores collecting, memory, transformation and the human impulse to find new meaning in discarded things.
Mechanical components, antique objects, natural materials and elements of nostalgia are brought together in imagined worlds where the familiar becomes strange and the overlooked becomes significant. Each work invites closer inspection, revealing layers of material history, craftsmanship and narrative.
Wunderkammer celebrates curiosity itself, the pleasure of discovering something unexpected and imagining the stories that objects might carry.
Odd Beauty: The Techno-Eccentric World of Steampunk
Odd Beauty was an international exhibition of Steampunk art curated by Southampton artist, designer and curator Art Donovan at the Southampton Arts Center, New York, in 2017. The exhibition brought together 20 artists from seven countries, including Australia, presenting a diverse collection of sculpture, design, mechanical objects, technologies and imaginative contraptions.
Drawing on Victorian aesthetics, mechanical and gear-driven technologies, science fiction and the concept of the Machine Fantastique, the exhibition explored Steampunk as a contemporary artistic language in which technology, craftsmanship and historical forms are reimagined through the lens of the imagination.
Saxon Reynolds was selected as one of the international participating artists, exhibiting alongside some of the genre's recognised practitioners. The exhibition was accompanied by curator-led tours, talks, performances and special events exploring the wider cultural and artistic history of Steampunk.
