EVOLUTION SERIES

​The Evolution Series explores the convergence of nature and machine, reimagining evolution through the creation of hybrid life forms that exist between the organic and the engineered. Drawing on the visual language of steampunk, each assemblage combines reclaimed mechanical components, antique materials and found objects to speculate on alternate realities where technology and nature evolve as one.

The series developed organically as seashells began to emerge within the constructions, inspired by a collection that had grown over several years. Many of these shells were gifted by friends and family, while others came from collectors of my work and members of my online community. Their generosity transformed these natural specimens - particularly nautilus and marine snail shells - into the conceptual and physical foundation of the series.

By juxtaposing intricate natural forms with aged industrial artefacts, the works examine themes of adaptation, transformation and the passage of time. The familiar becomes unfamiliar as organic structures appear enhanced by mechanical intervention, inviting viewers to question where evolution ends and invention begins. Each assemblage celebrates the beauty found in reclaimed materials, giving discarded objects a renewed purpose while imagining a world where nature and machine coexist in unexpected harmony.
